Minister Tony Clement - new responsibility for Ring of Fire
Tony Clement is the President of the Treasury Board of Canada, a central federal agency charged with overseeing government opera-tions, spending and the country’s 400,000-strong public service. Mr Clement brings three decades of senior ministerial experience to the position - which is likened to that of the Government’s Chief Operating Officer – and has spearheaded a transformational spending review that has wrought $5.2-billion in savings for Canadians to date. He has won a third term as Member of Parliament for the Northern Ontario riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka, serving previously in the Ontario Legislature for two terms. Mr. Clement is also the Minister of FedNor, the federal economic development initiative for Northern Ontario. Jobs, growth and long-term prosperity are the focal point of Mr Clem-ent’s mandate. As FedNor’s longest-serving minister, Mr. Clement has overseen programs designed to spur innovation and growth that have created over 11,000 full-time jobs. Mr Clement is committed to ensuring ever-greater opportunities for the region with the rise of the Ring of Fire, one of Canada’s most promising mining developments. Mr. Clement is married with three children and is dedicated to his family, his community, and Canada. His favourite hobby is playing the guitar, a skill he is
learning through online lessons in his spare time.
